Unfortunate situation

A couple of days ago, I recieved a LJ private message from gibbsgirlabby informing me that there was a situation over on Fanfiction.net. Some individual had posted one story each from me, tejas, xanthelj, and webbgirl. This individual's profile intimated that *she* was the writer of our stories and expressed some negative commentary about spanking fics and kink fics. The inidvidual called us out and seems to have some sort of personal axe to grind.

Needless to say, this is as far from the truth as can be. Xanthe, tejas, webbgirl, and I have very different writing styles and it is ludicrous (not to mention pathological) for anyone to think fandom readership will believe this individual created these stories a year or more after they were net published.

At least I'm in *excellent* company.

And fandom has been nothing short of amazing! I have over 30 LJ messages, tweets, and emails informing me of this. There are a few LJ posts discussing this, both from the authors involved and wonderful people like djmicheals, dietpunkfics, and kateri_e, who were outraged on our behalf. This situation could have been fairly negative, but with fandom's response, it has turned it completely on its head. I'm nore inspired and fired up to write than ever!

I've contacted ff.net and hopefully they'll resolve this situation.

I was going to stay quiet about this, following the whole "don't feed the troll" mentality, but the overwhelming response had me running to my keyboard this morning.

What is so funny is that the individual chose such well-known writers to steal from...the individual had to have known that they'd be caught. Nevertheless, that person's audacity is a plus for your fans. I'm really looking forward to what your inspiration produces.

I didn't know about this until Xanthe mentioned it and had a look today. I just can't believe how stupid she is! After making a few choice comments I asked where she posted her real fic so I could read the ones she'd actually written rather than ones she's stolen, after all, if she's accusing people of stealing her work she must have it posted somewhere. She hasn't replied...

After reading all the comments in the reviews I should think she's hiding under a rock somewhere, the four of you are just too well known and too well read for anyone to get away with this!

This kind of thing just frustrates me as I do believe that one shouldnt try to "feed the troll", but why the hell do they find pleasure in this kind of thing? Well, that's just plain pathetic. I love how she uses text lingo in her profile, proving that she actually doesn't even know how to spell properly.

Although I do post to ff.net, I don't spend much time reading fics on that site, so I never would have known about this had I not read your post.

Let's hope ff.net takes swift action and gets that person's profile off their site PRONTO.

Trust me. It's an honor to come to your defense. You wrote the first fanfic I ever read in NCIS. I'm still intimidated to this day by the caliber of authors, like yourself, who write at such a high level that I'm not sure my little fics will measure up.

I'm in the process of sending FF'ing a detailed message showing the troll's "fics" are obviously fake, by comparing "her" stories with the actual authors'.

I mean, really... we hear nothing from this person until now? Regarding fics that were posted at times years ago? Wow, this person's got balls.

The troll (or trolls plural I'm not sure) has hit again - around 10 days ago there was a huge attack on a couple of writers who shall remain nameless (mostly to protect them) all over FB. These writers are wonderful people and definitely didn't deserve this. Subsequently, they have taken down EVERYTHING they've ever written on ff.net plus other sites. As fans and writers we need to let these F$%#%$ers know that this kind of behaviour is beyond unacceptable... I'm glad that you, Xanthe et al got it all sorted out, but it's getting to the point where even amateur hacks like myself are a little wary about posting anything anymore, and frankly I'm tired of people I admire and people I care about getting done in the ear.... END RANT. O.o Sorry lovey, had to get it out!! Happy that it's all worked out for you! :)

No one can force anyone to delete their stuff. Anyone who does delete their stuff does so because it's their choice and doesn't require anyone else to act.

I can't imagine what might cause me to delete my stuff from the net, but if I did make that decision, I think it would feel fairly disrespectful for people to clamor for me to repost it.

Also, not knowing who or what you're talking about makes it difficult to know what kind of behavior you're decrying.
