Passing this along from my flist.

Thanks to [info]midniterose, here is how to stop the crossposting of comments/entries from LJ to sites like Facebook:

There is a way to disable everything. Here is what you have to do:

1. Go to your "Journal" menu, and select "Journal Style"
2. To the right, you'll see what theme you're using, with a link stating "Customize Your Theme". Click that link.
3. Scroll down a little ways, and you'll see that on the left side of your screen, you have multiple options to modify your theme. Click on the "Custom CSS" link, and it should load the options for doing Custom CSS.
4. From here, all you have to do is go to the "Custom Stylesheet", and put in that line.

.b-repost-item {display:none}

once you have it pasted in there, save changes.

Feel free to PASS THIS ON!!

ETA: This prevents the "repost to FB/Twitter" ticky boxes from being displayed when someone comments on one of your posts. It seems to work, UNLESS the person is viewing your page in their own journal style, in which case it might not work.

ETA2: Inserting the code below in your custom CSS box reportedly works for more kinds of journal styles, including custom ones (this courtesy of xnguard):

.b-repost-item, FORM#qrform > TABLE[style="border: 1px solid black;"]:last-child TD[style="vertical-align: top; text-align: right;"]:first-child { display: none !important; }

Hmmmm, do I open use one code? Because I inserted both and I still have the ticky boxes for this comment.

From: [identity profile] taylorgibbs.livejournal.com

I used the bottom one and I don't see them in this post. I don't know why you're seeing them :(

From: [identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_tweeter_/

trying again, got rid of the extra code and now no longer see the ticky boxes. Hmmm, if someone puts the wrong code in, though, like me, it looks like they can crosspost. Or am I confused again?

I don't have twitter or FB, so I'm trying to understand what's happened. And what I'm getting is that LJ posts are being copied and posted to people's FB's and twitter, without knowledge and without authorization? That's the jist of it?

From: [identity profile] jack-infinitude.livejournal.com

That's the basic jist, yes. Its also very easy to break f-lock with this new feature, so if one of your friends think you said something funny in a locked post about [insert potentially embarrassing subject here] they can spread it on their FB/Twitter/both.

So if I posted a reply to [livejournal.com profile] taylorgibbs and still got the ticky boxes, that means there's still a problem with her LJ, not mine? Or is mine screwed up because I put both codes in the CSS thingee?

From: [identity profile] jack-infinitude.livejournal.com

Sounds like its a thing with her LJ; those codes apply to your LJ since they go into your Custom CSS box. If you still see ticky boxes on her LJ, then its not you...though I'm not sure what it is.

From: [identity profile] gibbsgirlabby.livejournal.com

That is so whack. LJ is a place to be anonymous, why would they do something like this? This is why I loathe FB.

From: [identity profile] jack-infinitude.livejournal.com

I've given up trying to make heads or tails of LJ's decisions. At this point we just need to beat them over the head with the fact that this is A BAD IDEA. And FaceBook is the root of all evil. D:

LOL I have facebook for off fandom life, not for fandom. Occassionally, those cross and people could potentially put puzzle pieces together. It isn't very likely, but it is possible.

From: [identity profile] taylorgibbs.livejournal.com

From what I understand, the option gives you the capability to send your replies to FB or Twitter, if you have an account with them. This could expose your fannish leanings to FB or Twitter "non fandom" friends, who might object.

OK. First I had the one thing and now I have the other thing. I am so glad there are people out there helping out. Thank you.

me too! This all happened when I was in the hospital, so it took a little time to get up to speed.

From: [identity profile] audrey2419.livejournal.com

Thanks! I put both codes in my CSS box and I don't see those pesky boxes any more..

From: [identity profile] silvertales.livejournal.com

I got this code from a journal follower the other day, and I've noticed it doesn't seem to work for the following conditions:

1. When posting an update to your own journal (for some who are concerned they might accidentally choose a ticky box without meaning to.)

2. Either free accounts, or LJ communities... as I've put the code into my silvertales_art comm, and I still see ticky boxes if I test the "post a reply" link.

*GRRR*

Methinks LJ done screwed the pooch on this one, and expected everyone to love it. I hate (and I'm sure others do, too) the fact that my control over the report issue has been taken away from me. The truly stupid thing about it is LJ insists on adding these new "features" without Turn It Off or Opt-out capabilities, instead, assuming everyone will think this is brilliant.

Idiots.
