Gibbs didn’t know where the compulsion had come from. As a kid, he’d collected toy soldiers, GI Joes (soldiers, not dolls—never dolls!), die cast cars. As a teen, he’d collected car parts, getting up quite a collection before he’d enlisted.
But this…there had to be something wrong with him. It had started with Stephanie. She’d searched all over for this bear and that one. This or that limited edition animal that she had shipped to them in Russia. And when they’d divorced, she hadn’t taken the collection with her.
Gibbs had added to it gradually, then, when McGee had taught him how to do the online auctions, he triped—or sniped?—bidders several times a week. His collection numbered into the hundreds now, and he was going to give it to Amira on her next birthday.
Gibbs was just cataloguing his new purchases when Tony stumbled in, a grocery bag in one hand and a six-pack in the other. “Steak ni—Boss?”
“DiNozzo,” Gibbs drawled, refusing to hide the little stuffed toys.
“What are ya doing?” Tony asked, a sly little smile blooming.
“Getting a collection for Amira,” Gibbs replied, hand itching to deliver a headslap.
“Oh, in that case…” Tony looked over the collection. “Do you want an original Peanut the elephant. I have an extra and he’s very rare.”
Gibbs arched a brow, trying to hide his excitement, and nodded. “I—Amira would love that.”
“Sure she would.”

(And there's nothing wrong with adults having hundreds of beanie babies. There totally isn't! *eyes own collection*)
