He glanced at the mirror, focusing on his father behind him. Dad’s face was a bit flushed, and Gibbs knew exactly why. Jackson had been the reason he’d been promised to a baby before birth, before the sex of the baby had even been established. Dad had taken out a huge loan with DiNozzo Ltd. when he’d been starting his store, and then when Gibbs’ mother had died, he’d fallen on hard times and had been unable to pay the loan back.
And crafty Anthony DiNozzo Senior had figured out a way to keep the Gibbs family in his debt. He’d been very attracted to Gibbs’ mother and had been quite intrigued by pre-teen Jethro. Gibbs hadn’t learned about the contract for some years—his father hadn’t told him until he’d gotten serious with Shannon.
Gibbs had tried to buy the betrothal contract, had talked to lawyers to break it. But money talked and Anthony DiNozzo had hired the best lawyers. And he had money to burn. So Gibbs was set to marry a guy he’d never even met. And though he’d seen the picture, he had no idea hat he was getting into. Meeting Tony had been forbidden by the terms of the contract, though Gibbs had tried to engineer a few “accidental” meetings, but Tony’s bodyguards had thwarted every attempt, and Gibbs hadn’t pushed.
“You okay, boy?” Jackson asked, meeting Gibbs’ eyes in the mirror.
“Yeah,” Gibbs finally admitted. He allowed his eyes to glance over to the picture stuck in the corner of the mirror. The bright grin and green eyes were captivating, the golden streaked hair just begging to be mussed. “I’m ready,” he said, squaring his shoulders. It was time to become part of the billionaire DiNozzo dynasty.
