Team Effort
Gen
If you're a Mann fan, you should probably skip this one ;)
Pg 13

Sorgy wanted: Gibbs is in a relationship with Ryan (or Mann - your choice, either will serve me), and she's abusing him psychologically to the extent it's affecting his work as Team Leader not to mention person

Tony noticed the flinching first. He hadn’t understood at first. But when Mann glared at Gibbs and he shuddered, Tony’s senses went on alert. He’d know the bossman liked relationships with complicated—and domineering—women, but this one was different.

Even Jenny had seemed concerned.

Then Stephanie, Gibbs’ ex died in a car accident, and the man seemed to become a shell of himself. First her, then Maddie Tyler—car accident too—then the director in LA. Tony had known Gibbs needed something, but Vance had sent him afloat.

And while Tony had instructed Abby to look after Gibbs, he was doing things very uncharacteristic. Their solved cases ratio had jackknifed, and Vance was concerned.

When Tony got back from being afloat, he, Abby, McGee and Ziva began plotting. McGee planted bugs in Gibbs’ house when he was out with Mann, and he and Abby began running audio surveillance twenty four-seven.

The first night, at oh two hundred, Abby called Tony, her fury barely leashed. She asked him to come over, and bring Caf-Pow.

When Tony pulled up, Abby’s lights were blazing, McGee’s and Ziva’s cars in the parking lot. Tony rushed in, glad that he’d picked up some coffee as well.

Abby opened the door, face pale, her lack of makeup starting. He wrapped his arms around his clearly shaken friend, and began rubbing her back.

“What is it?” he asked, taking in McGee’s and Ziva’s grim expressions.

“It’s sick is what it is!” Abby shot back, pulling away. She was shaking with anger and pointed to the couch. “Sit down and watch what Bossman is going through!”

Tony shot McGee a concerned look, taking in his pale features and the way Ziva was fingering a sharp and deadly knife. Something serious was going on here.

The house was quiet, the creaking of the basement door resounding. Footsteps rose in volume and then faded, water running and the Gibbs slipping into bed with a muffled groan.

“The wicked witch wasn’t around tonight, but she left her mark.” Abby’s tone was low, furious, a bit sexy, though Tony gave himself a mental headslap and focused.

McGee tapped some keys, consulting with Abby in a low tone Tony couldn’t quite decipher. When the sound came back, Tony could hear a piano playing and a girlish voice. Interspersed were Mann’s dire proclamations, of what she’d do to Gibbs’ family—his team—if he didn’t do exactly what she said, if he didn’t care about her enough.

“Is that—”

“His daughter and his wife. She’s using psychological torture inflicted on his subconscious in order to get her way.” Ziva sounded excessively formal, her anger barely leashed.

“It gets worse…”

McGee tapped a few keys and brought a file up. “Stephanie Flynn’s brakes gave out. Maddie Tyler’s brakes gave out too. You know what Gibbs says about coincidences.”

“And Jenny?” Tony asked, a part of him hoping he and Ziva weren’t to blame, but fearing it as well.

“That was…unfortunate.” McGee finally said. “But we don’t think she was involved.”

Tony sat there for a few moments, absorbing the information, the macabre and threatening soundtrack increasing in malice, Gibbs’ pained sounds cutting to his soul.

“How do we do this without leaving any forensic evidence?” Tony asked. Mann was trouble, too much trouble for them to allow to live. Justice wasn’t always just, and they had to take matters into their own hands, whatever the cost. This was bossman’s life on the line and they’d all walk through fire for him.

“Are you in?” he asked each of them, locking eyes on first Abby, then McGee, and finally Ziva.

“We’re in,” they chorused.

Two weeks later, Tony stood next to Gibbs, his boss dressed in a black suit that had seen too much use lately. Hollis Mann had died in a fire, incinerated beyond recognition, the digitalis Ducky had helpfully provided and administered a secret known only to the fearsome fivesome, as Tony’d coined them.

Ducky had been the one to deliver the dose. He’d introduced Gibbs and Stephanie, had always liked Gibbs’ last wife, and he took it personally when he’d found out Mann had been responsible for the deaths of Stephanie and Maddie.

Ziva had asked for the honor of setting the fire, and as Tony and Abby got Ducky away and to a restaurant where they’d all be seen, Ziva had set the fire, while McGee had removed all the surveillance equipment and those evil tapes. They’d be kept in a safety deposit box, under one of Ziva’s aliases in case they were ever needed.

Gibbs had been quiet the last few days, going pale when the call had come in, but then pure relief had flickered over his features, and the team knew they’d done right by him.

“Jethro, are you holding up?” Ducky asked, all gentlemanly and solicitous, but he’d been the most lethal part of their group, and Tony was damn glad he was on their side.

“Never been better,” Gibbs said. He looked from Ducky to Tony, emotion shining in his eyes. And Tony realized Gibbs knew more than he was letting on.

“Thank you,” he whispered, giving them a little nod.

“Team effort,” Tony replied in an undertone. “Wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Oh, very nicely done! You managed to make Mann about as evil as people can be in just a few sentences.

Love how protective the team is in this one. Really great job!

It was different but I really liked it. Especially when held together and killed Mann.
