Every so often, I read a fic that makes me want to hang up my writing pen and just walk away. It is that good.
I've been lucky and fortunate enough to have read two in that category recently.
Damage by Xanthe debuted today and will be posted the entire week.
This is an epic Gibbs/DiNozzo story that defines hurt/comfort for me. Absolutely defines it!
Xanthe takes Tony (and Gibbs, by extension) on a very dark and intense trip into a world where past hurts and present concerns collide. She does things to these characters that are beyond comprehension and does it in such a sensitive and gentle manner. The emotional intensity literally took my breath away and brought me to tears more than once.
While the story is at heart the emotional journey of one character, I hesitate to describe it as such. It is so much more, The bond between the two men are the core of the story, but the team's quiet support of one of their own, the team and case aspects of the story, and the relationships formed and strengthened through this storm are incredible. The original characters are brilliantly drawn and the team is in great character.
Xanthe takes a sensitive subject matter and treats it with grace. And in the process, she paints a brilliantly stunning picture of Tony and the enduring strength of love.
Read it. You won't be disappointed. If you're a fan of Gibbs/DiNozzo, hurt/comfort, case fics, or stories of a character's emotional journey, you owe it to yourself to read this story.
