The story of Steel and Ronan was a lot of fun to write, and I expect a few more adventures from these two! Unfortunately, due to contractual requirements from my publisher, I've had to serialize this story, meaning that it will unfold over several releases. I hope you'll check them out!
If you don't have an ereader, no problem! B&N and Kindle have free downloadable applications that let you read on your PC. And Smashwords and Bookstrand allow for purchase of multiple unlocked versions, including PDF.
This writing jag has had me adding to fanfiction as well. I have several holiday shorts coming this month (Gibbs/Tony, Gibbs/Abby, and Gibbs/McGee) and am making good headway on several of the long commissions.
Before I let you go, here is an excerpt from Going Under.
Steel had the man in his field of vision for about ten minutes when he finally abandoned his table. Something told Steel that this was his guy, even though he couldn’t see any medallion glinting in the dim light. It didn’t hurt that he was older than most of the people in the crowd and that he had a look about him that screamed “been there, done that.”
Steel sipped his drink as the man traversed the dance floor, winding around people, trying to make his approach much more subtle than the beeline Steel could tell it was. As he slowly approached, Steel turned away, casually buttoning his shirt and covering the medallion. It wouldn’t do to show his hand too soon, after all. Not if there was fun to be had. He had his drink, but the flirting hadn’t even begun yet, and he was a man who believed in meeting or exceeding his own goals.
When the guy leaned against the bar beside him, Steel cocked his head, giving the guy a sidelong glance. At a distance he’d looked interesting, but up close? That was another thing entirely. He was maybe late thirties or early forties with thick curly brown hair that looked naturally sun-streaked rather than made up in a salon. Steel caught a glimpse of deep sapphire eyes that might have taken his breath away if he hadn’t been focused on his mission.
Who the hell was he kidding? The guy’s eyes had taken his breath away. Steel just wasn’t that easy. He growled quietly, trying to settle himself.
The deep spice of some expensive aftershave tickled his nose, blending with something sunny and just a shade dangerous. The guy was his height, maybe an inch taller, and he had a look that most people didn’t have here, the look of someone who had been around the block a few times.
“Scotch, neat. Tell me how much,” the guy said to the bartender, his voice holding a thread of command. This was a guy who was very used to giving orders. Unremarkable accent, no dialect that Steel could pick up on through those few words. There certainly wasn’t a Southern drawl or the harsh sounds of Boston or New York.
After the man’s drink arrived, he pivoted and leaned his back against the bar, his body language mirroring Steel’s. Great way to establish camaraderie, Steel thought, feeling more and more like this was his man. He risked a more direct glance over, but didn’t see anything that was the medallion around the man’s throat, or even wrist.
“Come here often?”
Even though Steel had been expecting contact, the man’s question caused a jolt through his body, settling somewhere below his navel. Damn, it had been too long since he’d been laid if this was all it took to get things started.
“Virgin,” Steel replied, lips curving into a smile. “You?”
“No virgin here,” the man shot back, smirking, the flash of white teeth almost sharklike before his lips closed. The man took a long sip of his drink, looking at Steel over the glass, his gaze assessing and, if Steel wasn’t mistaken, interested. The easy confidence in his voice, as well as his comfortably relaxed body language, were pulling Steel in, and from the smirk on the bastard’s lips, he knew it. There was no way Steel was going to show his hand so soon. There was a challenge in the man’s deep blue gaze, and Steel was never one to sidestep one of those.
“Prove it,” he retorted, finishing his drink and plopping the glass on the bar right next to the guy. It was entirely possible—probable even—that Barry’d sent someone along who wasn’t gay or bi, and if this guy was his contact, and if that was the case, Steel was going to have a little fun at his expense.
“What’ve ya got in mind?”
