When I was in Denmark I had like 6 channels (not including news/weather only channels). I always got home around 12:30 and it was 1pm when I sat down for lunch. There was a show on that I liked to catch at 3 pm, but there were two eps of NCIS reruns on first (1pm and 2pm). I would have it on just for a little noise while I ate lunch and got a jump start on homework. Soon I was watch NCIS and then doing homework during the other show.
I had been aware of it though, my grandpa watched from the beginning - called it the MH show. As he got sick and eventually died, it was the one thing that we really had in common. We didn't have much in common otherwise, and I only saw him 3-4 times a year. He got to go to all my cousins school stuff because they lived closer, but didn't really know much about day to day activities for me or who my friends were. Can't remember the last birthday they were able to make it to (sucks with a winter birthday when there is a mountain pass in the way). But we could talk about NCIS. His eyes lit up when I got season 4 DVD's for Christmas. He watched NCIS reruns up until he went unconscious 2 days before he passed away.
This also might be why I will watch until the very end - all these people bitching about how they don't like one character or because two don't hook up - such a small thing. The show overall is the one real connection I had with my grandpa and all that silly stuff is ridiculous. /end essay.
